5 ways to improve a ‘Gassy Staffy
If you're a dog owner, you may be familiar with the issue of excessive farting. Not only can it be unpleasant for you and your family, but it can also be uncomfortable and potentially harmful to your furry friend.
Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to help lessen your staffy's farts and promote their digestive health:
- Change their diet: If this is a regular occurrence in your household, it shouldn't be. A change in your dog's diet can often eliminate the gassiness. Look for a high-quality dog food that is free from fillers, grains and artificial ingredients and additives. The same goes when selecting treats.
Try to feed high quality fresh foods, raw meats, bones, organs, fish, fruits & veggies. Often the cause of the gassy staffy is from feeding a highly processed diet which the canine dog has trouble breaking down.
- Feed smaller meals: Rather than feeding your Staffy one large meal a day, try providing two smaller meals - one in the morning and one at night. This can help reduce strain on the digestive system and minimize the buildup of gas in the intestines.
- Probiotics and digestive enzymes: Adding a probiotic to your staffy's diet can help improve gut microbiome and promote a healthy digestive system. You could also try adding Kefir or Greek yogurt which is a good source of probiotics. Take note that you should only feed your dog plain yogurt or kefir without artificial sweeteners or added sugar.
- Exercise: Regular exercise can help to improve your Staffy's digestion and overall health. When dogs exercise, it helps to stimulate their digestive system, which can promote regular bowel movements and help to reduce the amount of gas in their digestive tract. Additionally, exercise can help to reduce stress and anxiety, which can also contribute to gassiness in dogs.
- Avoid table scraps: Instead of feeding table scraps throughout the day or whenever you enjoy a meal, allow your dogs only to eat at their dedicated meal times and follow a healthy diet. Introducing oily food they’re not used to can upset their stomach.
By making some simple adjustments to your dog's routine, you can help them feel more comfortable and eliminate those unpleasant odors in your home.
Your Staffy will thank you for it, and you'll both breathe a sigh of relief.
